Jewelry Care

Sterling silver jewelry is beautiful but requires proper care to maintain its shine and prevent tarnishing. Here are some tips for caring for sterling silver jewelry:

1. Wear Regularly

  • Surprisingly, wearing your sterling silver jewelry often can help keep it shiny. The oils from your skin help prevent tarnishing.

2. Avoid Exposure to Chemicals

  • Keep your jewelry away from chemicals like household cleaners, chlorine, perfumes, and lotions, as these can cause the silver to tarnish or corrode.

3. Store Properly

  • When not wearing your jewelry, store it in a cool, dry place. Use an airtight container or a jewelry box lined with anti-tarnish material. You can also use small silica gel packets or anti-tarnish strips to help absorb moisture.

4. Polish Regularly

  • Use a soft polishing cloth specifically designed for silver to gently buff your jewelry. This will help remove tarnish and restore its shine. Avoid using tissue paper or paper towels, as they can scratch the silver.

5. Clean with Mild Soap

  • If your jewelry needs cleaning, use mild soap and warm water. Gently scrub with a soft toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

6. Avoid Exposure to Air

  • Air causes silver to tarnish, so limit your jewelry’s exposure to air when not in use. Consider using anti-tarnish bags for storage.

7. Be Mindful of Contact

  • Remove your jewelry before swimming, showering, or exercising to avoid exposure to moisture, sweat, and chemicals.

8. Use Baking Soda for Deep Cleaning

  • For a deeper clean, you can create a paste with baking soda and water. Apply the paste to your jewelry, rub gently with a soft cloth, rinse, and dry.

Zamac is an alloy consisting of aluminum, magnesium and copper. Its a beautiful metal, that with proper care can last a very long time.

1. Avoid Water and Moisture

  • Zamak can corrode if exposed to water for extended periods. Remove your jewelry before swimming, showering, or engaging in activities that cause sweating.

2. Keep Away from Chemicals

  • Avoid contact with household cleaners, perfumes, lotions, and other chemicals, as these can damage the surface of the Zamak and cause it to tarnish or lose its finish.

3. Store Properly

  • Store your Zamak jewelry in a cool, dry place. Use a jewelry box or pouch to prevent exposure to air and moisture. It’s best to store each piece separately to avoid scratching.

4. Clean Gently

  • Clean your Zamak jewelry with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using water, as it can lead to oxidation. If necessary, you can use a damp cloth, but make sure to dry the piece thoroughly afterward.

5. Polish with Care

  • Use a jewelry polishing cloth to gently buff the surface and restore its shine. Be careful not to rub too hard, as this can remove the outer layer of plating, revealing the base metal underneath.
